Tai Chi

Introduction

Tai Chi began in China thousands of years ago as a martial art and it is sometimes referred to as moving meditation. Tai Chi combines slow, soft and firm movements that work the body and the mind from the inside to the outside, enhancing strength and energy.

Tai Chi restores the balance of yin yang energy and enhances the flow of Qi (Chi), or life energy, through the channels (meridians) of the body. Because the ancient wisdom is holistic, it asserts that all things are connected. So the enhancement of spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health relies on the correct balance of these forces.

Suitable for all fitness levels, its numerous benefits include:

  • A clear, calm mind
  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Prevention and alleviation of depression
  • Improved concentration
  • Peace, inner wisdom and a positive attitude
  • Improved circulation and heart and lung function
  • A stronger immune system
  • A stronger constitution
  • Weight loss
  • Help with conditions such as arthritis or poor digestion
  • Helps with back, spine and leg conditions
  • Revitalised lymphatic system
  • Better temperature regulation
  • Deeper, more natural breathing
  • Increased energy — both inner and outer

In other words — greatly enhanced health and well-being.

Tai Chi Quan and Sword Forms

At Traditional Qi we teach four Tai Chi Quan and Sword forms: Tai Chi Qi Gong Shi Ba Shi, 24 form, 42 form and 32 (Sword) form.

Tai Chi Qi Gong Shi Ba Shi is a combination of Tai Chi and Qi Gong. 24 form, which some people call "yang style", is a simple form consisting of 24 movements. 42 form is the format used in international compeitions. It is a beautiful form combining the Chen, Yang, Wu and Sun styles of Tai Chi. 32 (Sword) form is grounded in yang style but includes forms from other styles.
