The law of nature is:
"Sow and grow in spring, flourish in summer, harvest in autumn, and store and hibernate in winter."
Spring is a season of renewal, characterised by a rising energy that supports growth, metabolism, and repair. This energy of growth is one of the functions of our human vital energy or Qi.
The energy of growth does not only apply to children and young people. Adults and seniors also need it to support healthy metabolism and the renewal of cells in the body.
Spring is the time to strengthen and support the energy of growth in our bodies. At Traditional Qi, we help to guide you to be your own preventive doctor. Here are some tips to support your health and wellbeing for the season.
Spring Tips for Physical Health
Get up with the sun. The rising energy of nature can support our own growing energy.
Avoid wind and keep warm. Spring winds drive away the cold energy of winter, and the weather can change frequently and dramatically. Protecting yourself from wind and keeping warm can support the body’s growing energy and help prevent illness.
Eat more green vegetables and reduce spicy foods and alcohol.
Drink plenty of water, preferably warm water.
Exercise regularly. Tai Chi and Qi Gong can help support the body’s natural flow of energy.
Spring Tips for Mental Wellbeing
Try to remain calm and reduce unnecessary anxiety and emotional stress.
Avoid extreme emotions and allow your emotions to rise and fall naturally.
Breathe deeply, especially when you feel emotionally unsettled. Deep breathing can help calm the mind and support mental wellbeing.
Try to have a bowel movement every day.
Simple Daily Tips
These daily activities are especially effective in Spring:
Comb your hair regularly. The gentle action of combing can stimulate the scalp and promote circulation around the head.
Soak your feet in warm water. This can help promote circulation in the lower body and encourage relaxation.
Drink green tea, mint tea or chrysanthemum tea.
Eat kiwi fruit to help support regular bowel movements.
Stay away from drafts, especially if you are older or more sensitive to changes in temperature.
Tai Chi and Qi Gong exercises can help support the body’s energy of growth and encourage a healthy flow of Qi.
Good health in spring can help prepare the body for good health in summer.
